OVERVIEW

The Discourse, Media and Society research cluster is made up of world-class scholars and academics who are innovative, creative, qualitative and quantitative in terms of teaching, research and community outreach activities. In this cluster, our research focus is on the relationship between language use in any context of human communication and the place of formal and informal media (news media, social media, etc.) in the society. This field of media and communication studies is strongly anchored on the theories of human behaviour, the philosophies of human existences and the praxis of social relations.

The mission of this cluster is to bring about changes in the ecological and human ontological systems, through the transformations in human nature, social structures and patterns of human behaviours. Also, our research activities are focused on knowledge creation and solution provision to development-oriented issues.

  • This cluster addresses issues of contemporary conversations and relevance, such as technology-based communication, migration, environment, climate change, etc.
  • This cluster provides a significant way of responding to the demands of practitioners for communication materials and action plans to orientate the citizens and the public towards behaviour change in a number of key areas.
  • This cluster aims to create a hub of research data on migration studies, social media studies and development communication studies.
  • This cluster aims to create a network of scholars and media professionals that would serve as change agents to development-oriented issues.
