Emmanuel K. Igban serves as a Principal Information Officer within the Covenant University Centre for Research Innovation & Discovery (CUCRID).  In this capacity, Mr. Igban builds and manages a portfolio of technologists and know-how which can be commercialized, arising from research and innovation in various departments of the University.  He helps to showcase and disseminate the portfolio both internally and externally to potential partners as well as educate and inform internal stakeholders at the University of potential patentable discoveries and soliciting “reports of inventions”. Additionally, Mr. Igban builds and manages relationships with potential and existing industrial partners, and negotiates licenses, draft services and research contracts with industry partners. He also serves as the Chairman, Editorial Board of CUCRID/ODL.

Prior to moving to CUCRID, Igban served as Deputy Director, Media and Corporate Affairs Directorate of the University. He was also the Head of Corporate and Public Affairs of Covenant University for over a decade. During that period, he coordinated the University’s media relations, publicity, publication, public relations, protocol, event and multimedia services.

Igban has a very rich working experience in administration, journalism, public relations, advertising and marketing that spanned over 28 years. Before joining the University, he has worked in some of the leading newspapers and magazines in Nigeria, including the nation’s oldest newspaper conglomerate- The Daily Times, and was at different times Production Editor,  Deputy Editor, Acting Editor, as well as Consulting Editor in some mainstream media houses in Nigeria. He also worked as an integrated marketing communication consultant at the Emtrice Communication. He was involved in communication marketing for the nation’s apex privatization body- the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

A prolific writer, Igban holds a master’s degree in Mass Communication and currently a doctoral student. He is a member of many professional bodies including, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and Association of Commonwealth Universities PR, Marketing and Communications Network.
